VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -
Eighteen arrests were made in a domestic violence roundup in Vanderburgh County. The detail focused on catching those who had warrants for crimes like battery to molestation.
Most of those arrested are in jail Thursday night.
Earlier Thursday, one victim shared her story with 14 News, describing how these crimes impact families.
"We were wakened in the middle of the night, it was probably around 3:00 a.m., with a phone call saying he was on his way over here to slit some throats," said Amy Corne.
Corne is explaining what she says happened after separating from her ex-boyfriend Brandon Ferrari last year.
"He proceeded to break through, punch through the back glass window with a taser gun in his hand, and was actually tasering the gun as he was punching through the window," Amy recalled.
In 2012, Ferrari pleaded guilty to attempted battery causing injury.
Authorities say he has since violated his probation. Ferrari was one of 18 people arrested in the domestic violence roundup.
"A lot of these crimes go unreported, and even when they are, there is reluctance on the part of a lot of the victims to go through the process of charges through convictions," said Lt. Doug Daza from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff Office.
Sheriff's Deputies say domestic violence is one of the most common crimes they deal with.
"We're doing the best we can do to stop it, and also provide opportunities for them to get help and give them the information on where they can get help outside of just law enforcement," Lt. Daza said.
It's a situation Amy never thought she would be in.
She says the hardest part is looking at her two kids and explaining to them why daddy is not there.
"I hope he realizes what life is, and I hope that he get out of trouble and he can be the father he needs to be to his kids."
Most of the people arrested appeared in court Thursday.
Brandon Ferrari's next court appearance is set for Friday.
