Todd County, KY (WFIE) -
The Kentucky State Police is investigating a collision where a vehicle struck a police officer.
The collision occurred near the six mile-marker on US 68 East in the limits of Elkton, KY on Thursday, at 7:15 a.m.
KSP says the preliminary investigation revealed that Elkton Police Officer Brian E. Atkinson, age 36 of Hopkinsville, KY, was investigating a two-vehicle, non-injury collision on US 68 East.
Officials say Officer Atkinson was pushing one of those vehicles off the travel portion of the roadway, he was struck by a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier operated by Richard K. Seay, age 50 of Elkton, KY, who was traveling eastbound on US 68 East.
Officer Atkinson was knocked to the pavement.
Mr. Seay's vehicle also struck the car that Officer Atkinson was pushing.
Authorities say Officer Atkinson was taken via ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries.
Mr. Seay, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment.
Police say they are continuing the investigation.
