EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville Police arrested 40-year-old Latonya Harris on felony battery charges after spitting in an officers face during an arrest.

Officers responded to the Time Out Lounge inside Washington Square Mall for a person refusing to leave complaint.

Harris had been asleep in a booth for a couple of hours and would not leave when asked to do so. After noticing Harris was hearing impaired, the bartender had another customer communicate with Harris via sign language. Harris still refused to leave and tried to hit the employee.

As officers were trying to convince Harris to leave, she punched the employee. Harris was arrested for battery and escorted out of the bar. As Harris was walking to the patrol car, she turned around and spit in the arresting officer's face.

A second officer took custody of Harris and she was transported to jail. Harris was arrested for battery by bodily waste, simple battery, and for two failure to appear warrants.
