OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Senior citizens are invited to come out to Owensboro Christian Church Thursday morning for Senior Scam Jam.

Everything kicks off at 9 a.m. Thursday morning and lasts until 2.

Senior Scam Jam is "Jam"-packed with lots of important information for attendees to take away.

Here's a quick look at what seniors will get to learn at the event.

They'll be able to watch presentations on investment fraud and identity theft and attend workshops on mail fraud, insurance fraud, and predatory lending.

As part of attending, they'll also get a complimentary lunch.

Door prizes will also be available.

The event is sponsored by AARP Kentucky, the Better Business Bureau, and several other entities.

It's free, so it's a great opportunity for older residents to learn strategies for keeping themselves and their money safe.

According to a release from GRADD, over seven million older Americans, which is equivalent to one out of every five people over the age of 65, have been a victim of a financial scam.

So to avoid become a statistic, this is definitely something you'll want to check out.
