EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A new initiative aims to collect thousands of pounds of aluminum cans in the next month.

Keep Evansville Beautiful and Alcoa are teaming up for Cash for Cans.

They want you to collect as many cans as you can and turn them in at either Material Recycling Incorporated on Burkhardt or Tri-State Resource Recovery on Harriet Street near Morgan Avenue.

You'll still be paid for your cans, but for every 5 pounds of aluminum you turn in, you'll also be entered into a cash prize drawing.

Organizers say if you win, you can keep the cash or donate it to your favorite charity.

"This has been an annual challenge that's existed for more than five years. Every year, we're increasing the number of people who are first-time recyclers. When you recycle, you put money in your pocket. So, what we want to do is encourage people to recycle more and, in the process during this challenge, also benefit some area non-profits," said Jim Beck with Alcoa.

Cash for Cans runs through November 12th.
