EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Habitat for Humanity dedicated its Women's Build home on Tuesday afternoon. It's the house built entirely by women, and one of those women will now get to call it home.
"It's actually life changing to be able to build a house from the ground up," Corsica Fox said.
As Corsica Fox walks down her new street, she has memories of many of these houses.
"I built up, I pushed up the walls, all four walls," Corsica said.
That's because she helped build many of them. And the last house she worked on is now hers.
"We started July the 7th. It was a good process, it was long. It was hard work. It was sweat," Corsica said.
That sweat paid off.
Just as Corsica's life is changing, so is the energy on this street.
"It's exciting to see the progress on Morton Avenue. I remember walking down on this street even six months ago and you could really just see properties that were dilapidated. And now at this point, you're seeing new home construction, brand new sidewalk," said Jo Beth Bootz with Habitat for Humanity.
"I think it looks a lot better than it did when I got my lot. At first I was hesitant, I feel like it's lifting up the street," Corsica said.
Habitat for Humanity wants the energy on Morton Avenue to spread.
"We're hoping to possibly continue that here in Glenwood, and hopefully we'll move into some other areas and continue building," Corsica said.
Habitat has started construction on two more homes on the street.
