NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -

Friends and family gathered Sunday to celebrate and honor longtime Newburgh community activist, Lou Dennis.

Many agree Lou has left her footprint just about everywhere in the Newburgh community. As a former park board president, she led the charge for the construction of the Rivertown Trail.

Members of the community say she's changed the face of Historic Newburgh, and on her 80th birthday, the community park was named in her honor.

"That was a complete surprise. I never dreamed they would do that. It's quite an honor. I did give quite a few years with the park board and we tried to do the best we could. I'm very honored to have my name on the park," Lou said.

Lou has also been a part of Historic Newburgh's Ghost Tours for nearly 20 years.
