A man is in jail Saturday night, after Union County Sheriff's Deputies say he shot a woman in the face.
Authorities it happened around 9:30 Friday night in Morganfield.
Deputies say the suspect in this case is 21-year-old Deontay Black. The victim is Nancy Stevens of Morganfield.
It isn't clear right now, what lead to the Friday night shooting, but officers say Stevens was in critical condition when she was taken to the hospital.
Union County Sheriff's Deputies say the call came at about 9:30 Friday night, after it was reported that Stevens had been shot in the face and back.
"We haven't had anything like this, so it's a quiet neighborhood," said neighbor Mary-Rose.
Shot and abandoned, deputies say Stevens managed to crawl nearly 1,200 feet, across a field, to a nearby home. There, she found help.
"We understand that she walked and drug herself up from the corner of the highway down there to a house. And she beat on the floor until somebody came to the door," said Martin, a neighbor.
"The girl that lives over there was taking care of her until the EMT's came," Mary-rose said.
Once officers arrived, they say Black was located and arrested for attempted homicide, as well as fleeing the scene. And they say Stevens was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, in critical condition.
"We're not afraid of anything out here. But I don't know, I don't know. You never know about people," Mary-rose said.
According to St. Mary's hospital, Stevens' information is not currently listed. So, we have not yet been able to get an update on her current condition.
As soon as we learn that detail, as well as what lead to the shooting, we will update this story.
