Luke Bryan will become the first performer to use the Ford Center as the opening venue for a nationwide tour. And, even though the concert isn't until January, excitement is already building.
Ford Center managers say that fact that Luke Bryan is beginning his 20-city tour at the Ford Center says a lot about the arena.
"At first, I thought it was a joke," said Luke Bryan fan Joshua Waddle.
Waddle couldn't believe his favorite artist is kicking off his "Dirt Road Diaries Tour" in Evansville.
"When I found out that he was opening up, that was real exciting and then finding out he was opening in Evansville that was really, really exciting," he told 14 NEWS.
Waddle has seen Luke Bryan perform as an opening act five times. He says the singer just knows how to connect with the younger crowd.
The Evansville show to expected to be a sell out.
"It's really exciting that the production crews have given the Ford Center that much credit that they are willing to start beginning tours here, because when you start a tour, there's a lot of different tweeks that have to happen and the fact that they're comfortable enough with building that they can fix them on the fly with their first show out," said Scott Schoenike with VenuWorks.
"It's really cool that we get to start the momentum for the rest of the tour," Waddle said.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, October 26.
Waddle can't wait for the January 17th concert, noting that he plans to buy some new clothes for the event.
Thompson Square and Florida Georgia Line will be the opening acts.
And this isn't the only good news for the Ford Center. Managers says this years profits are expected to match or exceed last years.
