Here there be Monsters on the Ohio

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

It's catfish season in Owensboro. This weekend's Monsters on the Ohio, based out of English Park, claims to be the premiere catfishing tournament in Kentucky.

The tournament is in its third year and is expected to bring 80 boats to the riverfront.

Things kick off early tomorrow morning around 5 A.M.; with the official boat launch at 6:30.

Tournament organizers say some people are coming from as far away as Virginia and Pennsylvania to participate.

They'll be fishing in three designated pools on the Ohio river from 6:30 until 3.

Each boat can bring back five fish to weigh-in. The goal is to catch the biggest one.

It's a 100% catch and release tournament, meaning everything that's caught is put back into the river alive.

There will also be lots of things to do for the entire family. You can look forward to live music and inflatables for the kids.

Organizers are also focused on something besides seeing who will catch the biggest catfish. They are giving back to the community, by holding several fundraisers throughout the day on Saturday.
