EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
There's a money saving forecast for Hoosier heating bills.
Indiana utilities are predicting lower natural gas bills this winter.
When natural gas customers look at their bills this winter, Vectren says, they may notice those bills are up to five percent lower than last winter.
"I think it will benefit people a lot, you know. It's big savings," said Lynette Head.
For Vectren customers like Lynette Head, the news means saving a little extra money around the holidays this year.
"You know, I can get other things, you know, that I can save my money for," Head said.
"It's gotta help, doesn't it? It really does," said Evansville resident, Ronald Laster.
Vectren tells 14 News that due to an abundant supply of natural gas in the U.S. this winter, bills could be up to 5% lower than last year and the lowest they've been in more than a decade.
"Natural gas costs are passed on a dollar for dollar basis. So, if we're able to buy it for cheaper, customers automatically see those savings," said Vectren spokesperson, Chase Kelley.
But Vectren officials say just because you're saving money, it doesn't mean you should stop saving energy.
"Do what you can to lower your thermostat. Don't keep it up as high. Do what you can to make sure your furnace is tuned up, operating at the highest efficiency level," Kelley said.
Vectren says they have about a 110,000 natural gas customers in the nine county area around Evansville, saying it's an abundance of natural gas to the tune of savings for thousands of customers.
"I hope everybody else can enjoy the good music while it's playing," Laster said.
