CORYDON, KY (WFIE) -
In Henderson County, three candidates are vying for the Mayor of Corydon next month.
14 News talked with two of the mayoral hopefuls who shared their plans for the future of Corydon.
Two-and-a-half months after former Corydon Mayor Larry Thurby was removed from office, three candidates, Philip Brewster, Jr., Paul Echols, and Jack Horton, Jr. hope to get your vote on November 6.
"I don't really want to see no changes. I just want the people to be able to live and without raising their taxes," Paul Echols said.
Echols is a life-long Corydon resident who runs his own construction business. He's a former council member and worked as the city's maintenance supervisor for several years. Echols tells us, if elected, he'd work to keep property taxes down and city roads up to par.
"I can't keep seeing these property taxes going up and stuff because you know, like I said, we've got so many senior citizens in this town. They can't afford it either," Echols said.
Jack Horton, Jr says he's a former city council member and has lived in Corydon for nearly 40 years.
"I just want to see Corydon get back to the way it used to be," Horton said.
Horton tells 14 News he'd like to see the sides of the roads trimmed and trash picked up. He says he would also like to transform the old school, selling it, or turning it into something for kids.
"We're a small town and the more we can get it beautified and everything, we can get more people to move in to this direction," Horton said.
"Most of them have known me all my life. They know I stick to my word," Echols said.
"I pretty well stand by what my word, and if I tell them I'm going to do something, I normally go ahead and get it done," Horton said.
As of news time, candidate Philip Brewster, Jr. didn't yet return our calls.
