Know what's going on with alerts from Indiana State Police

Posted: Updated:
INDIANA (WFIE) -

Indiana State Police are using a new web based notification system that can give you alerts about anything from big arrests in your area, to road closures, and everything in between.

The new program, Nixle, gives you access to Indiana State Police information.

Here's how you sign up-

First go to the Nixle website and sign up for the alerts. You can choose to get notifications via text or email. You can even sign up to get alerts for the specific part of the county you live in. That way, if there is a significant arrest made, for example, you will receive a text or email that takes you to the Nixle site where you get specifics such as names, places and times.

Sergeant Todd Ringle says these alerts can be very helpful, especially in the winter.

"Winter is just around the corner. Hopefully we have a nice dry winter, but here in Southern Indiana, you just never know. If a particular stretch of a highway is causing a lot of problems, we're having a lot of slide-offs, we inform the media, we also inform the public. So if you have Nixle, you'll be able to have that information quickly," Ringle said.
