EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Just a few weeks ago, Lane Goodwin was a Western Kentucky boy in the fight of his life against cancer with a few thousand people following him on Facebook.

He is still in that same fight, but hundreds of thousands have now taken notice. The recent "Thumbs Up for Lane" phenomenon thrust Lane and childhood cancer awareness into the spotlight.

Evansville's Grace Point Church Assistant Pastor Steve Roehm and some of his church members have also been following Lane and felt compelled to organize a walk in Lane's honor.

"I haven't seen anything bring people together like this. I haven't since 9/11," Roehm said. "Lane's hope was to get 100k on his Facebook page, I'd really love to get 1,000 people to come to the walk."

The walk is this Saturday, October 13th at the Harrison High School Football Complex.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. There's no cost to walk, but donations are being accepted.

They're also planning to take a group thumbs up picture for Lane at the event.

Hope you can join them.
