Follow Up: HRC funding to be restored

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Funding taken away from the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Human Relations Commission will be restored.

Dr. Robert Dion, president of the HRC, said county officials were incorrect in claiming the funding formula in an agreement stated 91% of the HRC's funding would come from the city, and 9% from the county.

Dr. Dion said the HRC's executive director located the latest interlocal agreement, that dates back to 1989.  The document, he said, clearly starts 87% of the HRC's funding should come from the city and 13% of from the county.

Last Wednesday, the county council voted to cut funding to the HRC after county commissioner Marsha Abell said the county was only responsible for funding 9% of the HRC's budget.

On Wednesday, Dr. Dion said the county council was presented with the document.

He said council members vowed they are going to do the right thing and restore all the funding that was taken out.
