Despite the off and on rain, there's been a steady crowd at the first day of the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival.
Only one event had to be canceled, but it wasn't because of what was falling from the sky.
Rain, rain, go away is the message from the Fall Festival organizers.
People are still going out, but it is having an effect on the fest's bottom line, and in turn, on these local non-profits who depend so heavily on sales this week.
Hundreds braved the rain and chilly temperatures during the first day of the 91st annual event.
They used umbrellas and ponchos to get their hands on some pronto pups, funnel cakes, and tenderloin sandwiches during lunch on Monday.
But, one scheduled event didn't go as planned and not because of the rain.
Fall Fest Chairman Eric Shaw says the Best Voice Contest had to be canceled Monday morning because the stage wasn't cleared by inspectors. It all has to do with that deadly stage collapse at last year's Indiana State Fair.
But, the necessary modifications have been made and the Nut Club has been given the go-ahead to use the stage for the night's events.
"When anything like that happens, things have to change and you have to look around and one thing, we don't want anyone injured," Shaw said. "We just had some issues, some paperwork issues. Some of the calculations were apparently done with a different wind load than what was required."
Shaw says if the rain keeps up, they may have to move Monday night's amateur hour contest into the VFW on Wabash.
The Lighthouse Parade started at 7:00 p.m. Monday night.
And of course, the food booths are hot and ready to go, so plenty of food still to be eaten.
