Hundreds of Hopkins County kids get brand new shoes

HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Hundreds of students in Hopkins County are getting free shoes.

It's part of a non-profit program called "Happy Feet" that provides new athletic shoes to qualified kids.

Organizers say it's the first year they've been in Hopkins County and so far they raised roughly $20,000.

Happy Feet is in it's fourth year serving counties all across western Kentucky, and organizers say the local support has been overwhelming.

"You don't really realize until you're actually in the school that there are so many kids who don't have a pair of shoes that even fits properly much less a name brand pair and just kind of helps kids to feel like they fit in with everybody else," said Hopkins Co. Committee Co-Chair Cheri McNary.

If you'd like to make a donation, you can mail or deliver donations to Independence Bank in Madisonville or call (270) 824-1476.
