MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) -
In Muhlenberg County, workers are putting the finishing touches on the new Bremen Elementary School. Officials say the school will open the Monday after fall break.
Students and faculty, currently using the old Bremen Elementary, are preparing to move into the new multi million dollar facility and they say they're excited for the changes.
"The students when they found out the news yesterday, they all were excited, clapping, and hollering," said teacher Grant Sharp.
It's been a little longer than expected but 4th grader Chloe Lynn says there's a host of reasons why she's ready to move into the new Bremen Elementary.
"There's a lot of new technology and pods, different colors and there's drinking fountains in the classrooms and cubbies in the classrooms," she said.
Each grade level will have it's own color scheme, with a set of classrooms accompanied with the latest technology. Grant Sharp is in his 7th year as a teacher and he says that will really enhance the learning environment for the kids.
"New projectors, new smart boards, interactive boards where we can interact through assessments and instruction," he said.
"The classrooms are there together in basically a square so there's not a lot of traffic in and out and it's just going to be a quieter, better system for them to learn," said principal Robby Davis.
Davis says there's still a little bit of work that needs to be done before they open. He says in the next month of so the old school will be torn down and be turned into a parking lot, something that will be bittersweet for everyone.
"There is a tradition there," he said. "We've been there a long time over 60 years that school has been there. I went there, a lot of community members went to school there but this school offers so many advantages for the kids and for the teachers and they deserve it."
