EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

This morning, Mater Dei High School will hold an all-school assembly to kick off a new music and arts education program called Classics for Credits.

The program is a collaboration between the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and three Evansville schools: Mater Dei, Signature School, and Evansville Day School.

This program offers participating student two complimentary tickets, one for the student and one for a guest, to any or all Philharmonic's Classics Series concerts.

The student must deliver an essay, report, or completed questionnaire specific to the concert they attended to their school teacher to receive credit or extra credit.

The program is intended to serve as an introduction for students to live symphonic music, and hopefully, be the start of a life-long passion.

The assembly at Mater Dei will serve as an introduction to students on how to listen to classical music. It will feature the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra's Eykamp String Quartet playing a program of Bartok and Haydn, as well as arrangements of more contemporary composers.

Maestro Alfred Savia, music director of the philharmonic, will also speak to the students about listening from a conductors standpoint.

The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra's 2012-2013 season is titled 'Passport to Passion' and will take listeners on a musical tour around the globe. Their new season starts off on Saturday, September 29.
