WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

Indiana State Police say a man was arrested Monday afternoon on drug charges after he was stopped for passing a school bus in front of an off-duty trooper.

ISP says Sergeant Tom Weber was off-duty and driving his marked patrol car on Stacer Road when he saw the driver of a 2003 Mercedes Benz pass a school bus that had stopped at Cricklewood to unload children.

Police say the red lights on the bus were flashing and the stop arm was extended when the driver made the illegal pass.

ISP says Sergeant Weber stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 27-year-old Shane Hunter, of Newburgh.

Officials say while Sergeant Weber was talking to Hunter a strong odor of marijuana was detected inside the vehicle.

Authorities say a smoking pipe and a bag of marijuana was discovered inside a back pack located on the front seat.

Hunter was arrested and taken to the Warrick County Jail.  He was charged with Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia.

He was later released after posting bond.
