EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
A Downtown Evansville building has been sold to the highest bidder today.
Curran Miller Auction Realty sold the Sycamore Building at an auction in Downtown Evansville this morning and the highest bidder paid a base price of $900,000 for the six story building.
Seven bidders registered for the auction this morning, which was on behalf of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff.
The auction company says they had interest in this event really from all over the country with one party bidding from Texas and interest from Baltimore and Chicago.
Bidding started at $500,000 before capping at $900,000.
That winning bidder 14 News is told is not from Evansville, but does have local interests.
They're coming out of this with the Sycamore Building at Sycamore and 4th St. in Downtown Evansville, which was a prime location and selling point.
It's considered the "heart" of Downtown Evansville, close to the Ford Center and other venues like Casino Aztar.
The building was built in 1959 and originally utilized as a bank.
The 54,000 square foot structure is being auctioned off along with the two parking lots on either side.
That totals about 90 parking spaces, which officials say was another major selling point of this building.
