Talking up tourism in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - You can learn about upcoming festivals and events in Owensboro by attending a committee meeting.

Everything starts at 9:30 a.m Tuesday at the Convention and Visitors Bureau at 215 East 2nd Street.

Tourism officials typically focus on the marketing aspect and how money is being spent to promote the city in the best way possible.

Event and festival organizers are also given the chance to go around the room say what's new for their specific entity.

Networking is a big component of this meeting.

Tourism officials say it's exciting for everyone to see who puts on what event, especially the public.

Karen Miller with the CVB said, "We encourage people to come into our office at any time. A lot of local people don't even think about coming in here but every time they do they go 'oh we didn't know this about Owensboro, we didn't know that.' And we also have information about other places in the state of Kentucky and we can help you plan trips and things like that."

Miller says since there's so much going on with social media right now, photos and the events calendar are some of the tools used to drive people to visit the city.

The CVB website also just received a facelift with the goal of making it more user friendly and encourage even more people to visit.
