Raises coming to Evansville city employees

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Evansville city employees will be getting a three percent raise next year.

City council members say Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke indicated he would forgo a raise next year, and council members voted for no raises for them.

All other city employees will receive a three percent raise except a select number of employees who have been identified by a committee. That committee recommended raises of up to $11,000 for select positions.

Those raises were based on comparisons from other cities and changing job duties.

City council members voted that no raises could be more than 9.9%.

"Obviously that gave a lot of our members heartburn over those issues, and we kind of came down to a compromising number," City Council Member John Friend said.

City council members says there was a lot of communication between the administration and the council before this vote.

All of these raises are approved in the 2013 budget. The next budget meeting is set for October 15 at 5 p.m.
