VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville-Vanderburgh County EMA unveiled its Mobile Emergency Operations Center to the public for the very first time on Monday.

Officials say they're showing off the center to promote Emergency Preparedness Month.

It's equipped with cameras, satellites, and advanced radio systems just like their dispatch center.

The moblie center will be used during severe emergencies and can also house elected officials in its 'war room' during dangerous situations.

The local EMA will soon use the MEOC to participate in a statewide disaster exercise, and they say everyone should take the time to practice their own emergency preparedness.

"It is time for all of us to think about our own preparedness and planning because it would be several days into a huge disaster before this vehicle would arrive at the scene. So, you may well have to be on your own for the first 72 hours," said Sue Ann Hartig with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County EMA.

Officials say the center was purchased by the city, and its equipment was provided by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
