EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Members of the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau Board are back from a two and a half day road trip. They visited baseball and softball complexes in other states to get more information as they decide whether or not to invest in a similar project here.
Those CVB Board members, along with Executive Director Bob Warren and another staff member covered more than 1,100 miles, driving to five cities in three states before getting back in town late Thursday night.
They were able to check out complexes in Elizabethtown and Bowling Green, Kentucky, Chattanooga and Jackson, Tennessee, as well as South Haven, Mississippi.
Warren tells us those sites, some of which also had fields for additional sports, cost between 10 and 28.5 million dollars.
The type of complex the CVB is considering building at this point looks to be in the 10 to 13 million dollar range, with about eight different fields.
Warren tells us they came back with a lot of good information and learned a lot from their visits.
About everything from the importance of shade, sidewalks and scoring systems, to water irrigation and bleachers.
"I haven't put all of the numbers together yet and all of the facts and figures, but we got a tremendous volume of notes that were taken and according to the chairman of our board and our board members that attended, this was well worth the trip," Warren said.
As it stands right now, the CVB has not officially decided to go ahead with a baseball/softball complex. It is just something they are exploring.
Warren tells 14 News they are still looking into potential locations and that there is still a lot of work to do. We will keep you posted as this process moves forward.
