HENDERSON CO, KY (WFIE) -
Do you have a damaged or tattered American flag you're not sure what to do with? Saturday, the American Legion in Henderson is having a ceremony to dispose of old flags properly.
Organizers say they had planned on having the event in July, but couldn't due to the burn ban.
Saturday morning, members of local groups like the Boy Scouts and the American Legion Honor Guard will be there. They're holding a special ceremony, folding, then burning the flags.
The legion has collected around 60 flags so far. It's a ceremony organizers, tell us, that shows great respect for our country.
"It's just the proper way to do things and this is just a reminder to the community and the Tri-State that we're here to do those things," said organizer Tom Davis. "It should bring goose bumps to anybody that has any patriotism and that we're showing respect to the flag that we live under."
Organizers say you can drop worn flags off at the American Legion on Madison Street Friday night at their fish fry, or bring them to the ceremony Saturday.
Again, that ceremony is at the American Legion Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
