MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

The city of Madisonville is preparing for the launch of a new recycling program. It kicks off in just over a week, but there are a few things residents need to know to prepare.

Residents who signed up for the program will be receiving their recycling toters next week.

The city says they are the first in western Kentucky to launch a program like iRecycle, and it will help them save money and be environmentally friendly.

All recyclables are to be put into the toters and will be picked up twice a month.

Sign up is completely voluntary, and city officials say at this point they're amazed at the response they've received from residents. So far, 2,000 are already signed up.

The city says they're trying to make it as easy as possible for residents to participate in this program.

"Everything that they need to know will be contained on their toters," said Madisonville Mayor David Jackson. "There will be a sticker on the top that tells the day that their toter will be picked up, and it also tells what items that they can put in the recycling toter and we hope it's going to be a very smooth process."

The program officially begins on October 1st, and if you're interested in signing up ADD WEB LINK.
