EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
ER Doctors, medics and nurses from across the entire region gathered at Deaconess today to discuss the most cutting edge treatments in the nation.
The medical symposium is modeled after one of the most important EMS conferences in the world.
The symposium brought together more than 130 ER Doctors, EMTs, medics and first responders from across 10 different counties in the region.
Officials say this is the first event of it's kind of this size in Evansville.
What they're doing is learning about the most cutting edge treatments from across the nation and talking about how to apply them locally. They're talking about new medications, coma treatments and getting to patients quicker.
Medical officials say resuscitation rates are the hot topic.
Resuscitation rates meaning the percent of patients who walk away from the hospital neurologically in tact.
Dr. Peter Stevenson, medical director of the Emergency Dept. at Deaconess said "Historically here in Evansville our success rates are probably about 30 percent. Our goal while presenting all this data is to get that succession rate much higher than that, in the 40 to 50 range."
The symposium covered 22 different topics.
