HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) -

Take a look at some of the statistics on recovery efforts after the Harrisburg tornado that hit February 29, 2012. Eight people were killed in that tornado.

  • 40,000 meals prepared and delivered to tornado survivors and volunteers
  • 1500 out of town and out of state volunteers housed while assisting in debris removal and housing rehabs
  • Approximately 70,000 man hours of volunteer labor expended
  • 500 families contacted by disaster relief certified counselors for needs assessments
  • 15 houses rehabbed by volunteers
  • 100 rooms of furniture replaced
  • 5 mobile homes replaced
  • 50 homes referred for government rehab and/or rebuild eligibility to WADI, Crosswalk and Roy Adams, Inc
  • 4 semi truck loads of clothing disbursed
  • 8 semi truck loads of canned goods and cleaning supplies distributed

Jerry King, coordinator of the Harrisburg Project STORM volunteer initiative, released the statistics.

Thousands of dollars have been received from various charitable organizations to defray above costs. While debris removal and housing rehabs are slowing down, the need for household items, furniture, medical and counseling assistance and landscaping will increase.

"Our volunteer group, more than 100 strong and predominately members of the Harrisburg Ministerial Alliance, will continue to reach out to those in need and will continue to identify and secure fundings to help the citizens of our community," King said.
