EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

St. Mary's is celebrating a new expansion to its emergency department.

The renovations include 20 patient rooms, a new CT scanner, and a new state-of-the art nurse call system that includes text messaging.

For more than a year, workers installed new equipment and new nurse stations to create what St. Mary's officials call a better 'healing atmosphere.'

"The rooms are much bigger. They're state-of-the-art. There's lots of privacy and I think that will all go a long way in helping patient satisfaction to go up," said Dr. Otto Susec, the medical director of St. Mary's Emergency Department.

The hospital is already using its new emergency wing which includes new testing areas and waiting rooms.
