HENDERSON CO., KY (WFIE) -
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to
restrict southbound traffic to one lane on the US 41 Twin Bridges at Henderson
starting on Thursday, September 20.
This lane restriction is to allow the replacement of two rocker
bearings on southbound pier 11. This is on the Henderson approach end of
the southbound bridge.
Southbound motorists should be prepared to encounter lane restrictions between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The work zone will then be removed to allow normal traffic flow on the southbound bridge during the afternoon commute.
Lane restrictions are then expected to be back on the bridge from 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening to 5:00 a.m. Friday morning. Should the work require, lane restrictions may also be up on the bridge from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
The contractor will use four 100-ton jacks to raise bridge support
beams about 1/4th of an inch to allow old rocker bearings to be
removed and new bearings to be placed on the top of the pier.
The contractor is restricted to working specific hours to minimize
traffic disruptions. The crew will start work underneath the bridge at
7:00 a.m. on Thursday to prepare for the southbound lane restriction to be in
place starting at 9:00 a.m. The contractor will be fined $1,500 for every
15 minutes a lane restriction is in place outside of allowable working hours.
All southbound traffic in this work zone will move to the
left-hand or passing lane. Southbound motorists should be prepared to
encounter slowing and merging traffic near the entrance to the Trocadero
Convenience Store. This work zone will have a strictly enforced 45 mile
per hour speed limit that will extend the entire length of the bridge.
The Kentucky Transportation B Cabinet says no northbound lane restrictions will be required for this project.
