Ira Beumer, the man charged with murder after he was allegedly robbed at his home, is now facing a civil lawsuit.

Sheriff's deputies say Beumer chased the men who tried to rob him and allegedly crashed into their car, killing one of them. Beumer is facing a civil lawsuit from one of those suspects.

Jeton Hall's attorney says once Ira Beumer left his property and allegedly crashed into the car carrying his client, he broke the law.

Hall's attorney says Beumer should be responsible for his client's medical expenses and lost wages.

Attorney Glenn Grampp filed the complaint Wednesday in Vanderburgh County.

Hall, who is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail, was a passenger in the crash that left 22-year-old Antuan Jenkins dead.

Police say Hall is one of four men who allegedly broke into Beumer's home where he was held at gunpoint.

In the complaint, Grampp claims Hall suffered severe brain and neck injuries and trauma from February's crash. He wants a jury to decide whether Beumer should have to pay.

"If I came up to your door and tried to break in your home and you reasonably believed that I was going to do that, you can use force to prevent that from occurring and that force could include deadly force. But, if I realize you were home and I ran off the porch and went running down the street, you can't come after me chasing me down the street, shooting at me because that becomes murder," Grampp said.

Our attempts to contact Beumer and who we're told is his attorney were unsuccessful.

Beumer's criminal trial has been set for November 12th.

Hall, along with 24-year-old Dezmont Hogan, and 20-year-old Nalakeio Bennett are being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail.

Hall is due back in court October 12th.
