EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Sunday night, many people gathered on Washington Avenue in Evansville to pray and reflect on the life of Brandon Draper.

Draper's body was found in a burned car last weekend in Hopkins County. Sunday, the candlelight vigil attracted friends, family, and fellow church members of Draper.

It was a huge turnout and a great outpouring of support for Draper, as those mentioned gathered in front of the house where Draper was killed.

"Oh God, we ask you would facilitate some good out of this bad situation. Bring out some good out of this tragedy," said Reverend Adrian Brooks during the vigil.

Evansville's Memorial Baptist Church held Sunday night's candlelight vigil on the lawn of 841 Washington Avenue. The house linked to the investigation of Brandon Draper's murder.

"We were just simply meeting tonight to acknowledge the fact, it's important for the church to acknowledge Brandon, and the positive things, those of us who knew him, to accentuate those positives," said Reverend Brooks.

Reverend Brooks says Draper, a young man who had formerly been in jail for drug related charges, was a good person at heart. And Brooks believes Sunday night's large turnout, demonstrates the love and support the community had for him.

"Sometimes, in the midst of these situations, all we hear about are some of the negative things<" Brooks said. "We wanted the community to come and have a positive experience."

During the vigil, Brooks implored the community to put an end to violent crime. Saying everyone needs to find a better way to settle their differences.

"I hope and pray that people will learn from this situation," he said. "And that our community will become better. Not bitter, but better."

Brooks also announced that Draper's funeral will be held next Saturday.
