Indiana soldier dies in Afghanistan

LAFAYETTE, IN (WFIE) -

A Lafayette, Indiana soldier has been killed while fighting in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense says Sgt. Kyle B. Osborn, 26 of Lafayette, IN, died September 13 in Muger, Afghanistan.

Osborn died from wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms and rocket propelled grenade fire.

According to the DOD, Osborn was assigned to the 1st Battalion 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Camp Ederle, Vicenza Italy.
