Many Evansville residents will get the chance to get rid of old space-consuming items over the next couple of months. The Heavy-Trash Pick-Up campaign is starting up.
Many people all around town may be looking to get rid of things like old furniture or old kitchen appliances during the semi-annual Heavy-Trash Pick-Up.
The Heavy-Trash Pick-Up will begin Monday, September 17th.
Ed Ziemer of the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility Department says this is a semi-annual service that will last until November 16th.
City residents who pay for trash service with their water bill are eligible to leave items such as couches, electronics, and kitchen appliances on the curb for collection.
According to Evansville Water and Sewer, apartment complexes, mobile home communities, and commercial customers are exempt from the pick-up, and they say items like tires, computers, and automobile parts will not be collected.
Ziemer also says the heavy trash collection period is not an invitation for scavengers, who may be looking to take and sell part or all of the large items left on the street.
"And the main reason we discourage that is scavengers have a tendency to spread it out and throw it," Ziemer said. "And then it makes it very inconvenient for the person to pick it up and haul it off as trash. We can't stop it completely, but we discourage it."
Ziemer also says if any item left on the curb does not fit the requirements they have established, it will be left behind.
