Hot commodity has people lining up at Golden Heritage Days

PRINCETON, IN (WFIE) -

It's become known as the biggest festival in Gibson County. Golden Heritage Days is going on right now on the Princeton Square.

14 News reporter Emily Mieure was on the Princeton Square around 4:30 a.m. Friday and found out there's one food booth that's attracting a lot of attention.

The Heritage Days Folk Festival didn't officially start for another four and half hours and the only person there that early besides 14 News was Max Morin.

"It takes two hours from the time I come in to the time I get them out," Morin said.

He's preparing Cinnamon Rolls. Max and his wife have served them up hot at Heritage Days for 29 years now. Customers start coming to their window as early as 6:00 a.m.

"This is a tradition," said Princeton resident Dennis Bane. "If I didn't bring cinnamon rolls to work on Friday morning, first day of Heritage Days, my employees would disown me."

"I think I serve just about everyone in Gibson County before I leave," Max said. "You know, it seems like everybody wants a cinnamon roll."

Max's wife and business partner Harriet says it makes for some long days, but it's teamwork that keeps it manageable and even a little fun.

"My whole family does it," she told us. "Three boys, grandchildren. They all help me."

The fun doesn't stop until about 10:00 p.m.

"And then we have to slow it down a little bit and clean up you know, because you have to get up the next morning and do the same thing," Harriet said.

Some we talked to say it's the cinnamon rolls that keep them coming back year after year.

Other customers say what really keeps them returning are the friendly, familiar faces behind the counter.
