Pair arrested after allegedly assaulting 67-year-old

SACRAMENTO, KY (WFIE) -

Two men were arrested in Kentucky Wednesday morning for allegedly assaulting a 67-year-old man.

According to Kentucky State Police, Keith McElvain and Derek Tompkins assaulted the man as he had just arrived at his residence in Sacramento, KY.  During the assault, Police say two checkbooks and cash were taken from the victim. 

McElvain and Tompkins were at the scene when officers arrived but quickly fled in a vehicle.  Following a short pursuit, the two suspects were taken into custody after their vehicle collided with another vehicle on Kentucky 81.

The two transported to the Daviess County Detention Center face charges of operating a Motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs (Aggravated Circumstances), fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment and resisting Arrest by the McLean County Sheriff's Office.

Following an investigation by KSP, McElvain and Tompkins were charged with robbery, assault, criminal mischief and tampering with physical evidence.
