HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Residents in Hopkins County will be walking to support healthy babies Saturday.

It's part of the March of Dimes 'March For Babies' benefit walk.

The two-point-five mile walk goes through the Trover Wellness Park. All the money goes towards research and educational tools to help babies lead healthy lives.

March of Dimes works to prevent birth defects, premature births, and infant mortality.

Organizers say last year they raised around $20,000, but they're expecting to reach the $30,000 mark by the end of the weekend.

"Babies who are born too early face lifelong disabilities and things from developmental delays, so that is one of our main goals in raising awareness of the importance of healthy pregnancies," said March of Dimes Chairman Sara Spencer.

If you're interested in participating in Saturday's walk, registration gets underway at 10:00 a.m. and the race kicks off at 11:00 a.m.
