EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The greenway along Evansville's Riverfront is a popular spot for walking, running and bike riding.

Now, the Parks Department is hoping to alleviate a vandalism problem there, by installing different lights.

Right now, there are 70 balance type lights along the greenway in the riverfront area.  The Parks Department is hoping to install higher lamp posts.

Head of the Evansville Parks Department Denise Johnson says these shorter lights become the targets of vandals pretty frequently, and that means the city electrician has to fix them. It all gets to be expensive.

Just this week, a light by the tennis courts at Sunset Park was completely on its side.

"When I arrived the morning after it happened, it was completely over on its side, so somebody with force knocked it over," Johnson said. "The electrical was still attached, but the light is damaged beyond repair."

Coming up on 14 News at 5, what this might cost, and how the Parks Department may try to fund it.
