OHIO COUNTY, KY (WFIE) -
After months of going back and forth on a price, the Ohio County Fiscal Court is buying the old Country Club Golf Course and Park.
For the first time in a couple of years, Ohio County will have its own golf course, and some golfers are ready to tee off.
When the fiscal court went to purchase the old Country Club Golf Course and Park a couple months ago, leaders say the price tag at $600,000 was out of reach, but the court didn't give up.
"Every time we went out to explore the property we found more assets out there," said Judge Executive David Johnston.
After negotiating down to $350,000, the court decided to buy the land.
"The people of our county got a great deal on it," Johnston.
In the past, Ohio County High School golfers had a tough time practicing without a course.
"We'll drive to Central City. That's the closest course we can go practice that and have good greens to putt on, chip and stuff. Other than we're just out of look," said golfer Trent Hall.
"It's different because you just don't get the same feel. We have less matches since we don't have a home court," said golfer Hanna Coots.
These golfers are excited to have a course they'll call home.
"Being able to drive five minutes to go play around instead of 30 to 40. Kind of know the course. Kind of have a home field advantage," Hall said.
Officials say the county's new land has more to offer than just golf.
"We've got a nice lake that can have a beach area as well as a fishing area. We have a party size swimming pool. Got a place for a restaurant," Johnston said.
County leaders say they hope to open the course by spring.
