The worst of the heat moved out of the tri-state several weeks ago, but it certainly has been a sizzling year for not only our area, but most of the country.

In it's State of the Climate Report released Monday, the National Climate Data Center says the January through August time period in the lower 48 states was the warmest since records started being kept in 1897.

June through August were the third hottest summer months on record and sixteen states had their top ten hottest summers, although not for Indiana, Illinois or Kentucky due to a cooler August.

The January through August time period was also the 14th driest on record in the United States.
