NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Wrestler and WWE commentator Jerry "The King" Lawler collapsed Monday during a broadcast of WWE Raw in Montreal.

Lawler, a Memphis native, has been a regular contributor to the program for many years. He abruptly stopped speaking while ringside during a match, and members of the audience and WWE production team could be seen in the background staring toward the commentary booth.

Co-host Michael Cole was emotional when he addressed the audience later in the show to state that Lawler's medical emergency was not part of the entertainment program.

A statement from the WWE said that Lawler, 62, suffered a heart attack at the announcers' table and was taken from the Bell Centre to a hospital.

Lawler still wrestles regularly in the Memphis area, but is mainly works on WWE broadcasts as a commentator.

A taping of WWE Raw is scheduled for Oct. 15 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
