HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

The Medical Examiner's office has completed an autopsy, but there still is no cause of death or identity of the body found following a weekend fire.

On Saturday around 5:00 a.m., Hopkins County dispatch was contacted about a vehicle on fire in a field off Highway 813 near Mortons Gap.

Fire crews say they responded to a vehicle that was on fire. After removing the roof and trunk of the car, law enforcement took over to investigate a dead body in the car.

The sheriff's office says the vehicle's tags were not from Kentucky.

The Hopkins County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the case.

"We need some help figuring out, just figuring out everything. The time the car may have been there, just anything else they can give us. So, we'll follow up on leads as they come in and just do the best with the information that we got," said Detective Will Coursey with the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office tells 14 News it could be weeks before they even release the identity of the victim. If you have any information you can call them at (270)821-5661.
