EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Sunday is Grandparents Day, and this afternoon the Evansville Museum held a special event to celebrate.

Hundreds of people came out to enjoy free activities like face painting, dance performances, and stop by 30 nonprofit booths.

Also, special this year was a visit from the 501st Legion, a Star Wars enthusiasts group.  Members tell 14 News the group raises money for charities, and most importantly, makes people smile.

"That's why most of us are doing this is. When you're in character and it's sort of like a clown but a little different. The kids run up to you and it's a great feeling," said Bryan Goeppner, the Southern Events Coordinator with the 501st Legion.

"We're mostly just celebrating the community. It's about getting out and doing free, fun things with your family instead of sitting in front of the TV or behind the computer," said Amanda Groff, Curator of Education at the Evansville Museum.

The museum says this is the tenth year they've held the event.
