EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Roberts Stadium may be empty, but the parking lot was full of cars for the 19th Annual Vanderburgh and Posey County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, or Tox-Away Day, on Saturday.
The popular program was jointly sponsored by the Vanderburgh County and Posey County Solid Waste Districts and offered residents a safe disposal option for household hazardous waste.
More than a thousand cars made their way through the line to drop off their materials.
Residents brought materials such as used motor oil, antifreeze, pesticides, household cleaners and chemicals, aerosol cans, solvents and thinners, oil based paint, pharmaceuticals and mercury-containing items like thermometers and fluorescent bulbs.
Materials that were not be accepted include latex paint, commercial and industrial waste, explosives and ammunition, infectious waste and radioactive waste, including smoke detectors. Residents shall also not bring gas cylinders, appliances, computer equipment or tires to this program.
The Vanderburgh County Solid Waste District Board signed a contract with Environmental Enterprises, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio to run the program.
Tox-Away Day was for Vanderburgh and Posey county households only. No businesses were allowed to bring waste.
