Recent rain bring spike in sales to one local business

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Not everyone is complaining about the rain, Combs Nursery is seeing a spike in business as customers prepare their lawns for the fall.

"We're out of the drought, hopefully, for a while," explained Assistant Manager at Combs Landscaping and Nursery Jim Arnold.

Arnold is welcoming recent rains.  His business depends on it.

"I think it has a lot to do with our pysche, you know, that we know that it's raining, finally we can plant something," Arnold told 14 News.

The nursery took a hit when people stopped buying plants they couldn't keep alive during the summer drought, and with the rainfall we've been seeing lately, Combs has customers coming back to start replanting, reseeding, and preparing for fall.

"After the rain we had, we had, you know, we had back to normal days," said Arnold. "Matter of fact, some of them were, Saturday was as good as some of our Spring days."

The drought didn't put an end to Combs' summer business. Arnold says he sold more sprinkler systems to those who could handle the water bill spike. Others turned to a more economical option.

"A lot of people are doing more conservation, we've sold a lot of rain barrels that type of thing, people are trying to save money on their water bill by installing rain barrels"

Don't wind up your hoses just yet. Combs Nursery says if mother nature isn't giving us at least an inch of rain a week, you'll still need to keep watering your lawn and landscaping.
