Britton connected to several home invasions, one sexual assault

HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

A Hopkins County man arrested last month for burglary is facing new charges after being indicted by a grand jury.

Timothy Britton, 42, is now charged with robbery, burglary and one count of sodomy, in what authorities are now calling a home invasion and sexual assault.

Officials say these home invasions began as early as February of this year.

The sheriff's office worked with Kentucky State Police on a series of three robbery incidents in the city of Hanson.

Authorities say one victim reported being sexually assaulted during the home invasion. Then a few months later in July, the Madisonville Police Department began receiving similar reports and arrested Britton as a result.

But after further investigation, all three departments found that Britton was connected to more than just that one incident. Thursday, Britton received multiple charges.

The sheriff's office says this was a team effort in solving this case.

"There wasn't any kind of 'This is my case, not yours,' said Hopkins Co. Detective Will Coursey. "We all worked together on it and we were able to work with Madisonville Police Department, this matched here with yours, this matched here our ours and we were able to put it together. If we hadn't been able to work together on it, the guy probably would have never been caught and charged."

Britton remains in the Hopkins County Jail and the sheriff's office says he also faces drug charges.
