EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
New management will soon take over the Victory Theatre in Evansville.
On Wednesday, the Evansville Parks Board voted to end the current contract with SMG.
Parks Department Executive Director Denise Johnson says the termination of the contract with SMG will be effective October 6, which means SMG will no longer manage the Victory Theatre or the Mesker Music Theater.
At the parks board meeting on Wednesday, both Johnson and board president Jay Ritter said this decision does not have to do with poor management, unprofessinalism, or anything like that.
They say it's about streamlining things, and helping with business management purposes.
"There's a long history, and the history's been a good one. They were a good partner to have, but when you talk about consolidating and streamlining, you know, that tough decision has to be made," said Johnson.
It boils down to having the city deal with one management company instead of two.
While a new contract is not in place yet, Johnson says VenuWorks, the company that manages the Ford Center, will be taking over.
"It will help with the coordination of events and making sure in your genres you're not putting up a small country show and we're putting up a large country show, so one show doesn't get hurt more than the other. So it actually, the cinergy is there between the two facilities," said Scott Schoenike, the Executive Director of VenuWorks.
Mayor Winnecke issued a statement in support of the parks board decision.
14 News have calls to both local and corporate SMG management for their reaction to Wednesday's vote and to clarify how many jobs this may affect.
