OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

It's a rare sight in the Owensboro area Tuesday night as contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet started nighttime paving in the city.

Crews are working on two roads in Owensboro. A section of Kentucky 54 between Frederica and Triplett Street and a section of 81 just west of Bosely Road East to Frederica Street.

The nearly $700,000 dollar project should take about two weeks. Crews are doing some paving work improving the streets.

The work will be between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Officials say more than 28,000 vehicles travel on those roads a day.

"I know that causes a few problems for people that live in the area. Noise levels and things like that, but it just goes a lot smoother," said Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. "They can complete the work a lot faster and it's also a lot safer for both workers and the public by doing it at night."

Drivers planning to use those roads can expect short delays during the work with flaggers controlling traffic.
