EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Vandals fired shots in an Evansville neighborhood damaging several cars.

The vandals hit Spring lake Drive hard late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, shooting out the windows of at least three cars.

Police did not recover any ammunition, but based on damages they suspect a pellet or BB gun was used.

We spoke to one person hit by this crime spree who estimated the damages to be more than $800.

Evansville Police say that crimes like this are fairly uncommon and are misdemeanor offenses.

Police are hoping incidents like this don't escalate to repeated offenses.

"We get these periodically, more often than we would like. It doesn't take much for somebody to commit these. You got a kid who got a BB gun for a present and all of a sudden they're walking through their neighborhood late at night and you know they're doing criminal mischief on vehicles," said Sgt. Jason Cullum with the Evansville Police.

There were no witnesses and police are asking anyone with information to call 436-7979.
